The perfect guy. Oh, God–what a novel concept. Does he even exist in nature and not just in Zac Efron’s abs? We search and search but have this never ending checklist of what the perfect man should be. We stumble across frat boys, douchebags, and the ever sought after “bad boys” and still seem to come up short in the happiness department. Don’t get me wrong, we learn from all of you good for nothing guys, and we know you aren’t exactly the male perfection that we are looking for. Not that that’s wrong. A girl just has to keep her standards high.
It really isn’t that we want a man who is perfect. We deserve one.
We deserve a handsome guy who always tells us how beautiful we are (even when we look like we’ve been riding the struggle bus for quite some time) and actually means it. He isn’t doing it because he expects something. He says it because he truly means it with all of his heart.
We seek a man who is as proud of our accomplishments as we are and assures us that our blunders aren’t as bad as they seem. He is there to catch us when we stumble and point us back in the right direction with no judgment, only love.
We want a man who will pick us up when we can’t move on, who will stand by our side when we have to make tough choices, and who will push us forward when we need a vote of confidence. He knows we aren’t perfect and loves us even more for it.
The man of our dreams lets us pick the music in the car, choose the movie we watch at night, and doesn’t get pissed when we leave toe prints on his windshield.
A guy who always wants to teach us something new, and supports us as we learn. He lets us win, but only sometimes. (Right?) He is patient and fun, but challenges us to try hard and always fight to succeed.
We want a guy who always picks up the tab and wouldn’t dream of making us pay, but won’t allow us to be too spoiled or dependent. He is always up for getting another round (for our friends, too, obviously) and he’s there for us when we have a little too much and get emotional about missing our dogs. He isn’t ashamed when we cry in public (it happens) and will hug us tight until we are okay. And he makes it, whatever it is, okay.
He accepts us for who we are, no matter if we’re at the top of the corporate food chain or the bottom. He wants us to be the best at whatever we decide to be, but in the end, he is proud of the route we choose.
He is our biggest fan, our knight in shining armor. He makes us feel like the princess we are, and we never have to wonder if he’ll leave us.
From the moment we meet him, we know he will be by our side forever, no matter what disagreements, struggles, or fights we have.
We won’t find him in a bar, in English class, or at the library. He isn’t going to use some cheesy pickup line to gain our attention or offer to buy us a drink (despite the fact that, uh, it’s ladies’ night and the drinks are free) to start a conversation.
The man of our dreams is quietly waiting for us to cry over boys, take him for granted, and most likely shout that we hate him at some point or another (we don’t hate you, I promise).
The guy, the man, the knight is and always has been our dad.
No matter what guy comes along and eventually takes our hearts, our dads will always be the number one men in our lives. I don’t think we could ever thank them enough for the lessons, love, and never ending support they have given us.
Happy Father’s Day to all of the number one men in our lives, and thank you for making us the fabulous women we are today.
