I loved you yesterday, I love you now, and I will love you all the days of my life.
These words were penned (or typed, I guess) by Chris Kyle’s wife on their thirteenth wedding anniversary. In case you don’t know who Chris is, he is considered the most lethal sniper in U.S. military history. You know that movie, “American Sniper” with Bradley Cooper that made you sob uncontrollably? Yeah. It was about this guy. A true American hero and Navy SEAL, Chris dedicated his life to making sure ours were safe. On February 2, 2013, Kyle was shot and killed by a Marine Corps veteran who was struggling with post traumatic stress and schizophrenia. Kyle was killed trying to help the troubled veteran, something he had dedicated his post-military life to.
The world was devastated. But no one more so than his wife.
His wife, who stood by him through four tours in Iraq. His wife who would spend weeks waiting for a phone call, terrified that something had happened. His wife who helped him transition back to civilian life. His wife who loved him more than she loved herself. His wife’s name is Taya. And two days ago, she had to celebrate her wedding anniversary as a widow.
To honor her husband, she wrote a letter to him to celebrate their life together. The heartfelt note was published to Facebook just days ago, but has already received over 500,000 likes. Get your tissues out because it’s a tear jerker.
I know. Sobbing. Our love goes out to Taya, Chris, and military men and women everywhere. Thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice so we can live in this beautiful, safe, free country that we’re lucky enough to call home..
