Texas A&M Hosts A Football Event For Women That Gets Totally Sexist (Pictures)

Texas A&M

In what I’m sure was an attempt at building goodwill with female football fans, the Aggies of Texas A&M hosted an event dubbed #ChalkTalk on Wednesday night, which was aimed at educating women about the game. Aside from being totally sexist on the surface – why do we need a specific event to teach women about football? – the event probably wouldn’t have garnered much notice, if it had simply been a straightforward football lesson. But that’s not quite what happened.

Anwar Richardson, who covers Texas football for, broke the story, posting these pictures from the event:

Sounds pretty bad, huh? Well, it turns out that it was intended to be funny. The people in charge of the event, Texas A&M assistant coaches, Jim Turner and Jeff Banks, apologized in a statement.

We want to sincerely apologize to the passionate Aggie fans and to women for our failed attempt at humor during this week’s Aggie Football Chalk Talk and fundraiser. We clearly understand now that our comments and slides were not appropriate or consistent with the values of our football program or our Department. We must do better, and we will.

Both coaches have since been suspended for two weeks. But we aren’t quite done yet. Just in case the slides from the football lesson weren’t quite sexist enough for you, Turner and Bank also rewrote the Texas A&M “War Hymn” to make it more “female friendly:”

Sigh. It’s 2016, isn’t it?
