Meet The NYC Teenager Who Makes $480,000 A Year Babysitting

When I was in high school, I had a variety of jobs. I worked at a bakery (and gained 15 pounds), a tanning salon (I was so dark, it was glorious), an ice cream shop (Did you know it is possible to get tired of ice cream?), and of course, like most teenage girls, I babysat. The family I worked for was super generous. The mother was a socialite with a drinking problem and I’m pretty convinced the father was some kind of mafia boss, but given they paid me 15 bucks an hour and gave me a car to drive, I didn’t particularly care. However, 15-year-old Noa Mintz makes my babysitting cash look pretty pathetic — she’s made more than $400,000 at her babysitting business.

The New York City teen founded Nannies by Noa in 2012 and has grown the company to employ more than 75 full-time and part-time sitters and nannies, who serve 190 clients. Her father, an investment banker, served as the initial investor in her business, opening an LLC because Mintz was too young to do so herself. Mintz makes her money by charging a 15 percent agency fee of a nanny’s initial salary (which can be from $64,000 to $100,000) as well as a flat fee of $5 an hour for babysitting services.

Now that she’s a freshman in high school, Mintz has even had to hire someone to oversee the day-to-day running of the company so that she can focus on school. Allison Johnson, 26, is Nannies by Noa’s new CEO, who essentially takes orders from her 15-year-old boss. Discussing her much younger superior, Johnson told the New York Post, “It was a little bit of a challenge at first. She was 14! [But] I’m a feminist, and I really support women who do things for themselves and get their visions out there.”

Makes that $15 an hour seem pretty pathetic, doesn’t it?
